However, after his successful career, the Spanish dictionary adopted the word “cantinflear” from Cantinflas, which means to talk too much but say too little.

Cantinflas attended the golden globes in 1957. His American film, Around the world in 80 days earned him the golden globe award for best actor in musical or comedy.
Cantinflas was a philanthropist. He impacted many people’s lives. At one time, he was the sole support of more than 250 families who were living in the slum area of Mexico City called Granjas. He also gave funds for charity by appearing at benefit performances every year.
At Cantinflas’ home in Mexico City, many people would queue in front of his house to ask for his help. He gave out over $175,000 to these people from his money.
Cantinflas’ impact on people’s lives made his funeral an event to remember. Many people filled the streets of Mexico and the funeral lasted for three days.
Cantinflas changed his name because he wanted to hide his identity from his family. He hid his identity because he didn’t want them to know he was in show business, a career they considered shameful.
